E mihi ana ki ngā mana, ki ngā kaitiaki o Taungatara. Ngā uri whakaheke o Tame Paraone, nōku te whiwhi. This kiriata puoro (music video) was directed by Shivani Karan, filmed at Taungatara, in Manaia, Coromandel, with ngā kaitiaki o Taungatara, ngā uri whakaheke o Tame Paraone and whānau. The kupu(lyrics) recognise my Tairāwhiti (East Coast) roots, and begin with the familiar call of the Pīpīwharauroa (Shining Cuckoo), the bird that signifies the beginning of Raumati (Summer) and the breaking of dawn, he rā ka hua (a new day). This feel good raumati waiata also reminds us to get the work done “mahia te mahi”, lest you’re called out! Pīpīwharauroa was co-written at Reo Māori Song Hubs in 2023, with Tame Tuari ,Byllie-Jean Zeta, and Mātanga Reo Dr Hona Black. Reo Māori Songs Hubs, under a kaupapa Māori songwriting wānanga.
MANAAKITIA is a call to caring and cherishing each other and us all. It speaks of te aka matua, referring to the whakataukī (proverb) about Tāwhaki who was instructed to climb the aka matua, the parent vine, to climb to the heavens. To nurture our taonga so that we are never lost, e kore e ngaro . Through your whakapapa and within our ancestral stories we know who we are. The taura here is the eternal thread of life that connects us all, and through the whakatauki He kākano i ruia mai.. we are never lost. This is reinforced in the bridge mā te mōhio ka mārama, mā te mārama ka mātau – With comprehension comes understanding, with understanding comes knowedge and wisdom.

Allana Goldsmith is a Māori contemporary jazz artist that hails from the Tairawhiti region, East Coast of the North Island of Aotearoa/NZ.
Her iwi (tribes) are Ngati Porou and Ngai Tai.

Allana comes from a solid tradition of jazz singing with a love of the great standards. Allana has a unique approach to her original music, often written in Te Reo Māori. She naturally weaves together both traditions, maintaining and claiming the integrity and authenticity of them.

Allana has featured at many of the major festivals around New Zealand, including most recently at the Tauranga National Jazz Festival (2019) where she sold out her Tribute show to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She also featured in Waiheke International Festival (2017) and Queenstown Jazz Festival (2015) with her former band Wakakura.

Allana has released an Ep of five original waiata/songs in Te Reo Māori from 2015 to 2018. Three of which were funded by Te Māngai Pāho, the Māori Broadcasting Authority.
“In many ways she is reminiscent of the great singers of the past. What is not redolent of past singers, however, is her preparedness to tackle adventurous modern projects.”
